Low Temperature System for Wine Cellar

The Project

Airkool were appointed to deliver a specialist air conditioning solution for a newly constructed, bespoke wine cellar located beneath a Victorian stone-built vicarage property. The system was required to provide precise temperature control to protect and preserve a valuable wine collection, maintaining optimal storage conditions year-round.

The installation presented a number of challenges due to the nature of the property and its construction:

  • The cellar was situated below ground within a traditional stone-built structure
  • Restricted access and limited space required careful coordination
  • The system needed to achieve and maintain lower temperatures than standard comfort cooling systems
  • A discreet installation was essential to maintain the character of the property

Our Solution:

Following a detailed site survey, Airkool designed and installed a bespoke system tailored specifically for wine storage conditions.

Works included:

  • Installation of a Panasonic low temperature wall mounted air conditioning system
  • System configured to maintain temperatures between 8–12°C, ideal for wine preservation
  • Careful selection of equipment capable of achieving conditions beyond standard AC system limitations
  • Strategic positioning of the unit to ensure even air distribution throughout the cellar
  • Integration of user-friendly controls for accurate temperature managemen

All works were completed by our in-house team, ensuring a high standard of workmanship throughout.

Outcome:

The project was successfully delivered within a live renovation environment, requiring close coordination with both on-site builders and a bespoke cabinet maker responsible for the wine racking and finishes. Clear communication and careful planning ensured that all works were carried out efficiently without impacting other trades on site. Despite the challenges of working within an active construction setting, the installation was completed smoothly and to a high standard.

The client was extremely pleased with the outcome, commenting positively on both the quality of workmanship and the professionalism of our engineers. Particular care was taken to minimise disruption and integrate seamlessly with ongoing works.

The finished cellar combines high-quality craftsmanship with reliable environmental control. The bespoke cabinetry provides an outstanding visual finish, while the air conditioning system performs exactly as required, maintaining ideal conditions for wine storage.

The project also presented some unexpected elements typical of a property of this age, including the discovery of an original Victorian water well, which was ultimately incorporated as a feature within the space.

Overall, the result is a unique and fully functional wine cellar, demonstrating Airkool’s ability to deliver precise climate control solutions within complex and evolving project environments.
